Within 24 hours the excise department seized 2,238 Kg ganja worth Rs 2.60 crore, on Thursday.
The two incidents involving the smuggling of ganja took place on the same day in Visakhapatnam district. In the first case, the DRI (Directorate of Revenue Intelligence) officials caught four people at NAD junction where they were smuggling 1,638 Kg ganja in their four-wheeler.
Though it is illegal to transport such narcotic drugs, in the search the officials found about 40 bags stuffed with ganja, and to hide it with panache the four people hid it under banana stalks.
These were procured from interior areas and were going to be sent to Bhubaneshwar.
On the same day at Dabbada Village, about 600 Kg dry ganja was seized, and also two persons were arrested who were involved in it. It is said that they were transporting it to Patna.
Ganja, charas, Cannabis all the narcotics aren’t supposed to be intaken or smuggled as they are banned and illegal under the provision of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
