Visakhapatnam district on Tuesday recorded 258 new Covid-19 cases, the highest since October 2020. Spurt in Covid cases continued as 235 and 182 cases were recorded on Monday and Sunday. There are 1,774 active cases on Tuesday against 1,687 cases on Monday. As many as 169 people were discharged on the day after recovering.
The district also reported two deaths on the day, said Andhra Medical College Principal Dr. PV Sudhakar in a statement here, RT-PCR tests were conducted for over 1,200 AU Engineering college students who are in isolation and quarantine blocks after nearly 110 students tested positive in the last week of March. Results of 600 students wer received and all of them have tested negative and reports of the remaining students are expected on Wednesday.
District Collector V Vinay Chand appealed to people to take precautions against the deadly. He said people should focus on three mantras- wear masks, maintain social distance and personal hygiene. District Medical and Health Officer PS Suryanarayana said they were conducting 5,000 to 7,000 tests in the district and most of the cases reported in the last few days were contact cases. He said 9,680 vaccinations were done on Tuesday against 20,000 vaccinations on Monday. He said vaccinations at secretariats were being done on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. He said nearly three lakh people were vaccinated in the district till now.
