With an initiative to send back Migrant Workers stuck at various places due to COVID-19 homes Ministry of railways is currently running 642 Shramik trains across the country. About 7.90 lakh passengers reached their homes as on 13 May.
Coming to Andhra Pradesh the government has sent about 27,458 migrant workers to their respective States via Sharmik train facility till Thursday and in the coming couple of days, the government is yet to send another 37,394 migrant workers. These workers belong to six States and will be sent through 24 special trains.
Briefing media persons about the arrangements being made for sending migrant workers, COVID-19 Task Force Committee chairman MT Krishna Babu, said most of the migrant workers stranded in the State belong to Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. He said almost all the States, except West Bengal, have issued NOCs for transportation of migrant workers from AP to their States.
