In a major fire accident at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, a public sector undertaking, four workers sustained burn injuries and one of them has been shifted to a corporate hospital for better treatment.
According to a senior official at RINL-VSP, four workers sustained burn injuries when a hot metal ladle slipped and 50 to 60 tonnes of hot metal spilled on the floor of Steel Melting Shop-2 at around 8 pm on Friday. When the last report came in, one contract worker was shifted to Seven Hills hospital for better treatment. “Soon after the incident, fire brigadiers were rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.
The damage was limited to a small area and the operation in other two converters has resumed for production,” according to the steel plant officials. Three injured persons were rushed to steel general hospital and discharged after treatment. However, union leaders said all six workers were injured and of them, two sustained serious burn injuries
