The city of destiny is expanding and growing in multiple sectors by leaps and bounds with the onset of urbanization. Can you imagine Vizag that boasts of a population of more than 25 lakhs, 50 percent of them having vehicles for commuting! More than 12.94 vehicles, including 1,98,850 cars, 9.98 two-wheelers, 62,920 autos, 645 RTC buses plying on the stretch of 40 km National Highway 16.
Keeping in view of the increasing population and traffic in the future, Visakhapatnam is coming up with innovative plans with effective remedies to deck up the city’s landscape with flyovers at an important busy junction for seamless flow of traffic and for the safe arrival of people’s destination in time. Indeed, flyovers are putative symbols of ‘modernity’ or ‘technological advancement’. They will fuel the velocity and demand for private vehicles that have shaped the urban space discourse.
According to senior officials GVMC, four more flyovers will dot the city in near future at Gajuwaka, Maddilapalem /Satyam Junction, Hanumanthawaka, and PM Palem for easing of traffic pains.
Accordingly, bids for preparing Detailed Project Reports have been awarded to the Consultant to enable them to submit within four months along with survey projections, drawings, designs, soil testing. Apart from this, the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (VMRDA) also identified to construct some foot-over-bridges and pathways to provide easy passage to pedestrians.
Recently, the flyover at NAD junction, which is under construction, thrown opened partially from Airport to NSTL for ease traffic congestion on the route.
