The Disha Counselling center which was established by the city police is proving to be yielding good results going by the number of women-related cases that are being resolved. The counseling center was established in Room No. 12 of Swarna Bharathi Indoor Stadium consisting of all women officers- one each from the Revenue Department, GVMC, and Police to take a lead role in finding resolutions of disputes within the framework of the law.
Speaking to Hello Vizag, Police Commissioner Manish Kumar Sinha said so far 41 complaints have been resolved at the Disha Counseling Center, which has started utilizing police services without the need to go to the police station to resolve issues related to women. On every Thursday, from 10 am to 1 pm, we receive complaints. So far 60 complaints have been received, of which 41 cases have been resolved by counseling both wife and husband. The rest are in the process of being resolved Mr. Sinha added.
The aim of setting up this forum is to address family disputes such as disputes between husband and wife, relationship issues between friends, acquaintances, and partners. The other nuisance or issues where a woman feels harassed based on gender. “Most of the women do not approach the police or other grievance redressal forums because of inhibitions concerning their personal matters, because they do not want to disclose their identities. The distress caused in the lives of women can be addressed through early disclosure in a trusted forum, said Police chief Manish Kumar Sinha.
He also urges women to use Direction Counseling Center or Dial 100 or 181 without having to go to the police station if they face any sexual harassment, physical assault, domestic violence, husband or fire harassment. They can also email their grievance to email@example.com.
