Indian Railways committed to fight against the Coronavirus pandemic by adopting various measures including movement of Time Tabled Parcel Express Trains for maintaining uninterrupted supply of essential commodities to every nook and corner of the country during crisis in the wake of Covid-19.
As a part of commitment to the nation, Waltair Division has geared up its entire network to operate the Time Tabled Parcel Express Trains towards different destinations in the country. Waltair Division handled, during this national crisis, handled 603 trips of Time Tabled Parcel Express Trains carrying essential commodities viz.
food items, groceries, medicines, medical equipments, fish, fruits, gunny bags, vegetables and other daily need items to different parts of the country from 2nd April to till date and the mission continues.
The Division handled more than 9,100 tonns of cargo carrying 6344 tonnes of parcel traffic to different places in the country and received more than 2760 tonnes of parcels came from different parts of the country. The various essential commodities that were transported from the Division include
• Mango : 4346 Tns
• Medicine and Medical equipment : 15 Tns
• Fruits & Vegetables : 98 Tns
• Fish, fish feed etc : 885 Tns
• Milk & DIARY products including Eggs : 94.3Tns
• Miscellaneous: 904.5 TONs
Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, Divisional Railway Manager, Waltair has complimented the committed efforts of the staff and officers in continuing the uninterrupted supply chain. He said that to encourage the small and marginal business entities, Business Development Unit (BDU) has been setup with primary focus towards bringing the Railways closer to industry and trade. The Division is also holding interaction with the cargo movers to improve loading and unloading environment and will continue the efforts to enhance the cargo movement, he added.
