A female Lioness named “RANI” housed in Animal Rescue Centre, Visakhapatnam, aged 27 years died in the early hours in its kraal due to senility caused by multi-organ failure.
According to a press note from the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP), Lioness Rani was rescued from Ajantha Circus on September 4, 2001 and was received and housed at Animal Rescue centre, Visakhapatnam.
The animal outlived its life span and died due to multiple-organ failure in old age.
Further, a female Sarus Crane also died on June 13, 2020 due to injuries leading to trauma caused by aggressive behaviour of male bird during the mating, which is a natural behaviour.
Despite the first- aid given immediately to the bird, it succumbed to the injuries due to neurogenic shock, said the Zoo authorities.
