A senior orthopedic surgeon at one of the corporate hospitals in the city performed an orthopedic surgery that is very delicate and rare on a 33-year old male patient. The good thing is that the patient recovered well and was even discharged within 6 hours of performing the surgery.
The hospital stated that the patient has been suffering with intermittent pain and swelling in the midfoot for the past 8 years. According to the MRI scan performed on the patient, the doctors noticed a degenerative arthritis in the talonavicular and calcaneocuboid joints.
Doctor Khan performed talonavicular arthroscopy through dorsomedial and dorsolateral midtarsal portals, calcaneocuboid arthroscopy through lateral and dorsolateral portals. He performed synovectomy and debridement of both the joints and also took samples for microbiological and pathological analysis.
This is the first time such a surgery has been done in the foot of Andhra Pradesh.
