The number of active Covid-19 cases breached the 9000 mark in Visakhapatnam district on Thursday. The district also reported more than 1,000 new cases for the sixth consecutive day.
The district recorded as many as 1,129 new Covid-19 cases, taking the cumulative number of the cases into 78,557. The death toll due to Covid -19 is five on Thursday.
The number of active cases now stands at 9,179 against 8,740 on Wednesday and 8,267 on Tuesday. As many as 685 patients were discharged on the day, taking the total number of recoveries to 68,776, according to the AMC principal Dr. PV Sudhkar in a statement here on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Tourism Minister Muttamsetti Srinivas Rao asked the concerned officials to take up immediate steps to improve facilities and services at the special ward earmarked for journalists at King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam.
1,829 cases in Srikakulam district
Srikakulam district on Thursday recorded the highest surge of 1,829 Covid-19 cases with a test positivity rate (TPR) of 34.5 percent. The district continues to be in second place in the state with an active caseload of 14,155 Covid-19 cases.
Of them, 11.613 are in home isolation, 1,062 are in Covid Care Centre and 1,480 are in Covid Hospital. On the day, Srikakulam Municipal Corporation commissioner N Ramesh conducted surprise checks and imposed a fine on vegetable vendors who were violating Covid-19 norms.
