In view of the spike in the Covid-19 pandemic, all nationalized banks in the state will function from 10 .m. to 2 p. The convener of the State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) V. Brahmananda Reddy on Thursday said that new working hours would be in force till May 15. The same was communicated by the SLBC to the state government through a video conference held on Wednesday.
During the lengthy video conference, it was decided that the working hours (business hours) of the banks would be restricted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Banks would encourage doorstep banking activities. Moreover, the banks would continue to provide four mandatory services (accepting deposits, cash withdrawals, remittance and government businesses) apart from other need-based services that could be provided under existing pandemic conditions, he said.
Stating further, Mr. Reddy said it was the discretion of the individual banks to permit branches to work with the lean workforce, and allowing work from home facility to avoid congregation at branch level/ controlling and other Offices.
It is important that the banks have to take all the necessary steps to ensure the availability of sufficient cash with branches for pension payments and other DBT payments and etc. Nevertheless, currency chests, ATM cash loading vendors, ATM back offices, clearing houses, bank treasury offices, Forex back offices & SWIFT Centres and others centres as authorised by the Head Offices of the Bank would function normally, he said.
