In the virtual press meet held by Divisional Railway Manager, Waltair, Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava today he said that enough care has been taken by railways to check the passengers who are traveling by special trains and even the railway personnel who are working in the front line are given with safety gadgets to combat the spread of coronavirus infection. Before the meeting, Sr.Divisional Commercial Manager, Shri Sunil Kumar gave a PowerPoint presentation on various safety works, developmental activities, freight transport, incentives, and other initiatives taken by the Division during this lockdown period.

Interacting with the media personnel DRM said that an automatic video thermal scanner with artificial intelligence has been provided at the entry of the Visakhapatnam Railway station which screens 30 passengers at a time and capable of keeping the record for further reference. He also mentioned that the Waltair Division has incurred a loss of Rs 1000 crores in both Freight & passenger sectors due to Coronavirus infection and subsequent lockdown. To a question by a media person, he said that all the ongoing works are in progress as usual and even at a faster pace and regular train movement can be expected only after full control of the coronavirus infection. The loss incurred in goods traffic is due to industrial slowdown and scarcity of workforce due to the pandemic.
