An Apheresis machine was inaugurated at King George Hospital (KGH), Visakhapatnam. The apheresis machine is used for collecting convalescent plasma used for COVID patients.
It was inaugurated by V Vinay Chand, Collector and District Magistrate, Visakhapatnam, here on October 1. Apart from collecting plasma, the machine is useful in harvesting platelets which is useful for the treatment of dengue.
While the cost of equipment is said to be Rs.22 Lakhs, the consumables are worth Rs 13 lakhs and other equipment’s Rs 10 lakhs.
A total of 45 lakhs was made available by the District Collector. Dr.P.V.Sudhakar, Superintendent, KGH, Dr.S.Venkateswar, P.O., ITDA., Dr.K.Indira Devi, Dy. Superintendent, Dr.K.Shyamala Devi, Medical Officer, Blood Bank were present.
