Araku ex-MP indulges in Muslim bashing on Twitter

Former Araku MP Geetha Kothapalli, who joined the BJP in 2019, came under the spotlight on Thursday following her tweets on religions. After expressing doubt over the religion of climate activist Disha Ravi, she triggered another row by posting offensive remarks against a Muslim user on Twitter.

The virtual fight began when Mohammad Zubair, cofounder of the Alt News known for its fact-check reports, shared a news report that claimed Disha Ravi was not a Christian. Responding to the Twitter post, the former MP argued that the full name of Dish Ravi is ‘Disha Ravi Joseph’, implying that she is a Christian. After this, Zubair shared the election affidavit of the former MP, highlighting her husband’s name ‘Kothapalli Jacob’. Kothapalli Geetha flew off the handle at this, targeting Zubair’s faith.

“Madrasa educated chap, what is an awkward moment? Did I hide? It’s legal and official. Am I the one who created the toolkit? Am I the one who is facing Charges? Awkward is your madrasa brain which fails to understand the basics (sic)” she tweeted. “Several trolls who refer to Christians as ‘rice bag converts’ are RTing this tweet by @ Geethak_MP Jacob. By the way, I am happy that the venom inside you is coming out in the open for the world to see,” responded Zubair.

Some netizens tweeted that the CBI has filed a charge sheet against Geetha and others for their alleged involvement in a criminal conspiracy to cheat Punjab National Bank (PNB) to the tune of Rs 42.79 crore. The CBI filed a charge sheet in the court of Principal Special Judge for CBI cases, Hyderabad U/s 120-B (criminal conspiracy) read with 420 (Cheating), 468 (forgery), and 471 of IPC and U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of the PC Act, 1988. Babblloo, a netizen, tweeted that Geetha is from a Christian Dalit family who got a fake ST Certificate as her brother has a BC Certificate.
