Arnab Goswami led Republic TV apologized 280 times to the UK Media watchdog between February 26, 2020, and April 9, 2020, for broadcasting content that included offensive language and hate speech. The UK regulator also imposed a fine of 20,000 pounds on Republic Bharat.
Goswami is now being compared to the Hindutva Icon Savarkar who wrote multiple letters to the British government for his release. The UK Government penalized Republic Bharat for the show “Poochta Hai Bharat” aired pm September 6, 2019. The show was to discuss India’s Chandrayaan 2 spacecraft mission to the moon. During the programme, India’s space exploration programme was compared to Pakistan’s. The country’s terrorist activities against India were also discussed.
The guests and Arnab Goswami were recorded saying that everyone in Pakistan, the scientists, doctors, politicians are all terrorists. Every child is a terrorist. One of the guests on the programme referred to the people of Pakistan as beggars and warned of an attack on the nation. Not just was the programme potentially offensive to Pakistan but a racist term was also used throughout the programme. The UK Regulator has fined the channel as per Section 127 of its Communication Act, which makes it illegal to send a message via a public electronic communication network that is grossly offensive or of an indecent character.
