For any CM of a state facing fund crunch, it pays to bank on a blue-eyed babu with vast exposure to banking. Senior ‘livewire’ bureaucrat Aditya Nath Das, who has been handpicked by CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy to be the next Chief Secretary (bypassing several senior IAS officers), has added another feather to his cap.
Known for his courage, efficiency and integrity, Das now has the rare distinction of securing his extension with the good offices of none other than Jagan well before taking charge as CS. The Chief Minister has decided to continue him in the same post for another six months from the day he retires.
Towards this end, Jagan has written to the Centre seeking Das’ extension. Das is expected to retire in June. Jagan has successfully sought such extensions twice for the current CS Nilam Sawhney. Bandied about as Jagan’s man Friday, Das will indeed be a great asset to the Andhra Pradesh government. His positive attitude can fix negative forces in the government.
Bihar-born 59- year-old Das studied at Banaras Hindu University and Jawaharlal Nehru University before joining the civil services in 1987. He started his career as Assistant Collector in Vizianagaram district. Very few know that he was an ace banker and worked in Punjab National Bank before joining the civil services.
