Agriculture Minister Kursala Kannababu conducted the review with officials concerned with the development of the food processing industry. The review meeting was held at the secretariat on Thursday and was attended by Agriculture Special Secretary Poonam Malakondayya, Food Processing CEO Sridhar Reddy and KPMG consultants. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the state government will give a big boost to the development of food processing industries. Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has made suggestions to improve rural employment as well as rural economic conditions in the state. He urged the authorities to formulate a new policy to increase employment opportunities and add value to food products.
The Minister briefed the officials on the government’s activities on the development of food processing industries, policy formulation, implementation and incentives. The minister told officials that CM Jagan was of the view that a cluster policy should be set up for the development of food hygiene. NABARD advised the authorities to formulate their policies and incentives in the preparation of food processing policy. He said comprehensive measures should be taken to develop food processing industries in the state. He said the government was planning to set up a food processing unit in each district. For that appropriate possibilities are being explored.
