Wajid Khan, of the popular music composing duo, Sajid-Wajid, passed away on May 31, 2020, at the age of 42. The musician was said to be suffering from various heart and kidney ailments. Sajid confirmed to PTI that his brother passed away due to cardiac arrest. He also added that Wajid had tested positive for Coronavirus.
A few days ago, music director Salim Merchant, told PTI that Wajid was hospitalised at Surana Hospital in The Chembur suburb, as his medical condition was deteriorating. Salim Merchant said, “He had multiple issues, he had a kidney issue and had a transplant a while ago. But recently he got to know about kidney infection…he was on the ventilator for the last four days, after his situation started getting worse.”
Wajid was buried and laid to rest at the Versova Kabristan in Mumbai. A few loved ones, relatives were present, including his brother Sajid, and actor Aditya Pancholi. A lot of condolences and messages of grief showered in from the music and film industry. Condolences also poured in from the music industry.
On Sunday, Salim Merchant tweeted, “Devastated with the news of the passing away of my brother Wajid of Sajid -Wajid fame. May Allah give strength to the family 🙏Safe travels bro @wajidkhan7 you’ve gone too soon. It’s a huge loss to our fraternity. I’m shocked & broken. Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un”.
Several others including Sonu Nigam, Kailash Kher, Tulsi Kumar and Vishal Dadlani also paid tribute to him from the music industry. Actors from the film industry, including Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra, Arjun Kapoor, Kiara Advani, and others gave their tributes to the great composer as well on social media.
Renowned singer and composer Shankar Mahadevan tweeted, “Am just not able to come to terms with this! Shocking! Goodbye dear brother… love you .. till we meet on the other side! Prayers for your peaceful journey Wajidbhai.” Parineeti Chopra wrote on Twitter, “ Wajid Bhai you were the nicest, nicest, nicest man! Always smiling. Always singing. All heart. Every music session with him was memorable. You will truly be missed Wajid bhai.”
