The campaign has picked up momentum for elections to the 98 wards of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation which are being held after a gap of 14 years. Hectic campaigns coupled with whirlwind visits of wards by MPs, MLAs and state-level leaders of political parties is the order of the day. Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha Member MVV Sathyanarayana toured most of the wards, while Anakapalle MP Dr K Satyavati visited four wards under the Anakapalle zone of the corporation.
Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar, Visakhapatnam South MLA, who switched over to YSRC, Campaigned for the ruling party in the wards located in the old town. Belong to the fishermen community, he visited the harbour area and localities with the fisherfolk population.
The candidate who is tipped to be the mayor from the YSRCP, Vamsi Krishna Yadav visited houses in his 21st ward. He is being challenged by the independent candidate Mohammed Ghoue. The top leader of the party accompanied Vamsi Krishna. TDP MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishnababu campaigned for the party candidates in Jalaripeta, his stronghold, and Lawson’s Bay Colony. PVGR Naidu, Vizag West MLA addressed several election meetings in Gajuwaka and Sriaripuram industrial areas.
