After showing an impressive poll performance in the GVMC elections, the YSRCP party is started hectic lobbying for the mayoral nominee. The name of the city president of YSRCP Vamsi Krishna Yadava, who won from the 22 ward, is doing rounds for long before the elections. Nevertheless, it is now being evaluated if he had extended his support and worked for the party or sabotaged the chances of the YSRCP candidate who lost from Vizag East in the 2019 polls. Sources privy to the news of mayoral candidate says that there will be a bolt from the blues, if the wish of the chief minister prevails, going by the way he is taking various factors like caste equations, women representation, etc in finalizing the candidates for Mayor and Deputy Mayor seats.
Towards this end, YSRCP supremo and Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Monday has started consultations with party senior leaders and in-charge ministers to finalize the Mayors and Deputy Mayors. It’s also learnt that Jagan is contemplating candidates from BCs even for the general category posts. Vizag mayor seat has been reserved for BCs, and the YSRCP chief, in all likelihood, will pick a candidate from the Yadava community that has a sizable presence. In the past, the YSRCP chief has made many sensational decisions so far be it choosing five deputy chief ministers keeping in view the equal representations for the social groups in the regions and making Visakhapatnam the executive capital of Andhra Pradesh.
Keeping in this mind, Mayor will be the first citizen of the capital and carries a huge responsibility. Insider sources say, there might be a creation of six deputy mayor posts to represent each zone of the GVMC for equal development and inclusive growth of the region. On the other hand, speculation is also rife that women Corporator will end up occupying the Mayor’s seat, or else they will be given deputy Mayor seats. Tourism minister Muttamsetti Srinivas’s daughter has also won as a corporator, and it is also learnt that she is being considered for the Deputy Mayor post. Lastly, the selection of Mayor, Deputy Mayor and chairperson candidates for the corporations and municipalities will once again reflect the Chief Minister’s social engineering formula. Since there is time till March 18, the list is expected to be out tomorrow or the day after,” said a senior functionary of YSRCP.
