After playing a cricketer whose hopes of making it to the national team are dashed after his love story fails in Shiva Nirvana’s Majili — a project which ended his poor run at the cash counters — Naga Chaitanya will now be seen as a hockey player in Vikram Kumar’s next, Thank You. The SVC production, which went to floors early last week in Hyderabad after being in development for over six months, will see him as a sportsperson in some portions.
A source close to the unit tells us, “While the hockey segment forms a minor part of the film, which is primarily a well-packaged commercial entertainer in tune with Vikram Kumar’s sensibilities, Chay, being a perfectionist that he is, took the game seriously. He trained in hockey under a Hyderabad-based coach for a week before beginning filming. While like any game, it was hard to get it right in just a matter of week’s time, he did ensure that he got the basics and body language right. Vikram shot the hockey portions last week and was pleased with the effort that Chay put in.”
The source adds that Vikram and the team are happy with the footage of the first schedule and now are gearing up to commence the second schedule from January 4 in Hyderabad. Vikram is directing Thank You from the story of writer-director BVS Ravi. Speaking to us some time back, the former said that it’s a story that needs to be told now. “It would resonate with the audience at various levels. That said it’s not a message-oriented film but has an undercurrent of something which is wonderful. It got me connected to the story in the first place. It has got all mainstream elements — humour, drama, romance, and a little bit of action,” the director had said.
