Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy today felicitated the Sitalakshmi daughter of the Pingali Venkaiah, who was an Indian freedom fighter and staunch worshipper of Mahatma Gandhi and the designer of the Indian national flag at her home town in Macherla here on Friday.
Family members of the Pingali Venkaiah shared the spirit of the independence movement with CM Jagan. The CM shared pictures of Pingali’s life. Sitamahalakshmi, daughter of Pingali Venkayya, recalled that Pingali Venkaiah himself presented the national flag to Gandhi and that Pingali Venkaiah introduced himself to Gandhi as a father. Following the decision of the Central Government to hold celebrations on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the country’s independence, the CM YS Jagan inaugurated the celebrations in the state by honouring the family members of the National Flag Designer Pingali Venkayya.
Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has appealed to the Indian government to award the Bharat Ratna to Pingali Venkayya and a letter has been written to the Prime Minister to this effect.
