Hours after the fire accident at the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) refinery in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday, district Collector Vinay Chand on Wednesday ordered an inquiry and constituted a five-member technical committee to probe the mishap.
The committee which comprises experts in the field of oil and natural gas and engineers will analyse the risk in the CDU3 part of the refinery and the possible causes of the oil leak. Senior professors from the Chemical Department of the Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy will also conduct technical and safety inquiries along with Andhra University Chemical Engineering experts.
The Collector said that a report would be received within a week. It may be recalled that on Tuesday afternoon, a fire broke out in one of the crude processing units of HPCL’s Visakha Refinery. Fire tenders were summoned and the blaze was extinguished. Fortunately, there were no injuries and all employees were accounted for and safe.
