Waltair Division of East Coast Railway carried out the insertion of Limited Height Subway in record time. The level crossing No. 454 in between Nellimarla- Garividi stations in Visakhapatnam-Palasa is manned level crossing. The Limited Height Subway work done with planned execution by using past experience which consists of 10 segments of 2mts width with size of Box is 5mts X 3.65mts. These 10 segments had been launched in just 4 hours block, by cut & cover method. For this work heavy machinery was utilized, to complete within block time, consisting of 6 heavy duty excavators, 3 Heavy duty cranes and contractual work force.
Just after starting of the block, the track was removed with the help of cranes, earth work started from both sides. Simultaneously the shifting of boxes and base plate was done. After reaching the center the surface preparation was carried out and base slabs & pre fabricated boxes were placed using heavy duty cranes.
While the earth work was in progressive, the boxes were lifted from both sides and placed at the requisite location. The activity of earthwork for starting the placement of boxes taken One Hour; Two hours for placement of 10 boxes; for placing of base slabs after surface preparation and linking of tracks it took One hour and in total the block was completed in 4hours under the direct supervision of Senior Divisional Engineer Shri Pradeep Yadav and Sr. Divisional Engineer (East) Rajiv Kumar under the guidance of DRM Waltair Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava.
Divisional Railway Manager Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava appreciated the team efforts in completing the construction of Limited Height Subway in record time of Four hours.
Apart from this, yet another safety enhancement work commenced in main line by commissioning Double distant signals at three locations on Waltair Division today. Provision of DOUBLE distant signals will upgrade the standard of Signal interlocking and speed of the train running. Double Distant signals commissioned at Urlam station and at two at Manned Level crossing gates (ML419 & ML 417) between Tilaru- Urlam section of Visakhapatnam-Palasa main line.
