The blueprint for the rolling out of the Covid-19 vaccine in the district is rapidly taking shape with committees set up by the District Collector to execute the plan working on a war footing. Towards this initiative, DM&HO and the District COVID Special Officer and District Immunisation Officer will be interacting with the District Collector V Vinay Chand on Friday to present the plan of action for the distribution of vaccines.
As per the plan, the vaccine will be administered to 60,000 health workers who have been identified and list in the first phase. Speaking to Hello Vizag, District COVID Special Officer and Principal of Andhra Medical College Dr. P.V. Sudhakar said “if everything goes according to the plan of action by the state government in acquiring of vaccines, we will be in a position to start the process of vaccinating the frontline health workers.
In the second phase of the vaccination plan, the focus will be laid on the other frontline workers such as officers and the staff from GVMC, Police and Revenue departments, and civic staff. Accordingly, a formal list has been prepared by identifying about 2 lakh people. After that, in the third phase, vaccination will be administered to those who are in the 50- plus age group and have co-morbidities.
According to the district official, the final list of 8 lakh people has been prepared and it is expected that by April end, the second and third phase of vaccination will be over. The district has a population of 47 lakh, and after the first three phases, the remaining 37 lakh will be vaccinated in phases, according to sources.
Speaking to Hello Vizag, Dr. Jeevan Rani, District Immunisation Officer, said that work is apace at the 40 cubic meter refrigeration facility and will be completed soon. The district already has a 16.5 cubic meter facility and both together can hold over one lakh vaccines at any given time, she said.
