Head nurse Vijaya Kumari, frontline staff and in charge of the Covid-19 ward of Visakha Steel General hospital (VSGH), died due to coronavirus on 12th September in Kims Hospital. She is survived by two daughters. She joined in VSGH in the year 1996 and continued with her services with much dedication towards taking care of age-old patients. Due to a spike in the Covid-19 pandemic, she was made head nurse to take care of Covid-19 patients. This nurse was infected with Coronavirus on the 12th of August 2020 and given medicare both in VSGH and Kims Icon hospital.
Hospital authorities confirmed that a staff nurse, who was in her early fifties, died of multi-organ failure due to Covid-19. Expressing his deepest condolences at the passing away of Smt Vijaya Kumari, Dr. D Raghunatha Rao, Advisor-Medical Oncology of Visakha Steel General hospital said, she was a highly duty conscious and very caring nurse – for whom, going beyond the call of duty was the norm, rather than the exception. Quite rare these days, especially in COVID times!
Hospital authorities said that Rs 50 lakh insurance coverage will be arranged very soon as announced by the central government towards healthcare providers, who are in direct contact and taking care of patients suffering from Covid-19 infection. For the moment, who is serving at the VSGH remembering her fondly, saying she was a kind and gentle individual.
