The city task force and PM Palem police have busted a cricket betting racket in the city following the arrest of four persons. On credible information, a team of PM Palem police and city task force raided a flat on the 15th floor of Celebrity Towers of Panorama Hills at Rushikonda and arrested the accused and seized equipment, including a communication set up box with 25 mobile phones, two laptops and two colour TV sets.
The Kingpin of the racket, Chebolu Srinivas, is absconding. The arrested persons were identified as K Ravi Kumar, T Dhanunjay and V Rambabu, all residents of Vizag and M Sivaji, a native of Srikakulam.
According to PM Palem Inspector A Ravi Kumar, Chebolu Srinivas alias Cable Srinu has been organizing betting from the flat and hired four employees for it. Pakistan Super League T20 cricket matches began on June 9 and they were conducting betting operations. They collected amounts from punters for the match played between Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi teams on Saturday night. They were conducting betting with the help of a setup box, which can communicate with 30 mobile phones simultaneously.
They also used a cricket line guru app for betting. The police found that they were misleading those betting with false ratings of the teams and their matches. They are using eating and flying codes for betting. Srinu allegedly collected amounts from punters through e-wallets with the help of his associates. The police seized Rs. 1,590 along with equipment used for betting.
