The district health officials intensified testing with a special focus on school students due to a possible second wave of virus infesting the region. Four students tested positive in recent days three from the Gopalapatnam area and one in Thummapala of the rural district. On average 7,000 samples were being collected of which 2,000 account for school children. Earlier, only 200 samples were collected from schools on a random survey.
“We didn’t want to take any chance. Even false alarms are being raised over infection in private schools and colleges, we are rushing teams to collect the samples,” said district medical and health officer Dr. P Suryanarayana. The DMHO said the demand for vaccination in the district has gone during the last week due to a spurt in the case. On Tuesday alone 7,000 people got vaccinated in 26 urban health centres and other designated hospitals. He added that one lakh frontline workers took the first dose.
