The land for the construction of the newly-announced South Coast Railway Zone (SCoR)’s headquarters building in Vizag is yet to be finalised. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the new railway zone has been submitted to the Union government several months ago, but a decision is yet to be taken. The DPR had estimated that Rs 175 crore would be required for the establishment of a new zone. But, a token money of Rs 43 lakh was sanctioned by the Union government in the recent budget and Rs 3 crore in its previous budget.
Speaking to Hello Vizag, P Srinivas, Officer on Special Duty-in-charge (OSD) for the establishment of the new railway zone, South Coast Railway zone (SCoR) said “The DPR is still under the scrutiny of the Railway Board and survey is underway to find a suitable location for the headquarters office. A token money has been sanctioned.”
Sources privy to the development said that the Railways was planning to build SCoR headquarters at either Wireless Colony which is only 1 km from the railway station or at Mudasarlova which is a lush green area with little pollution. In a land exchange agreement with the state government, the Railways was given 52 acres of land parcel in Mudasarlova in the city. The Railways had allowed various construction projects including the Telugu Talli flyover of the state government on its land. Hence, in 2013, the state government had assured the Railways to provide the land in Mudasarlova.
