Be careful! Drug peddlers in Vizag agency areas are adopting innovative methods to lure the youth with chocolates laced with cannabis, which can be proved to be fatal and will have long-term health issues.
A recent raid by the sleuths of the Enforcement bureau seized gutka, zarda, pan masala, and other banned material while raiding at different places in Allipuram. Apart from this, the cops also chanced upon a gang of peddlers involved in making ganja-laced chocolates and selling them to addicted youths under the guise of ‘Ayurveda products’. The modus operandi is simple by mixing powdered cannabis with chocolate powder and makes ‘ganja’ or ‘bhang chocolates’. After all, the contraband is marketed as a cocoa product, peddlers avoid law-enforcing agencies while transporting them to other parts of the country.
As per the police sources, the intoxicating chocolates were supplied from Kolkata, Odisha, and other States via Visakhapatnam. So, based on the reliable inputs and available data, the Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) and II Town police jointly conducted a raid and seized 60 kg of ganja near Allipuram along with bhang chocolates and gutka packets. Nevertheless, these bhang chocolates were being supplied in medicine boxes with a different brand name. The seized material samples were sent to the lab for scientific examination.
Commissioner of Police Manish Kumar Sinha said of the five involved, three, including a minor, were taken into custody on the charge of illegal possession of ganja and other banned products. Ajitha Vejendla, Additional Deputy Commissioner Police, Special Enforcement Branch said the team seized the banned material and non-receipt products sold worth Rs. 1.15 lakh and handed them over to food safety officials.
