A newborn baby boy was found abandoned in the bushes near a local tank at the Rellivalasa village under the Pusapatirega police station limits in the Vizianagaram district on 5 August was rescued on Wednesday. Two villagers heard the baby’s cries and found him abandoned in the bushes. K. Appa Rao, a member of the Child Rights Protection Commission of Vizianagaram district, then informed the police and other authorities. The Pusapatirega police led by sub-inspector V. Balaji rushed to the village and took the baby from a woman who wanted to adopt him. The police said that they found bruises on the back of the boy and he was shifted to local government hospital for first-aid. The District Child Protection Officer shifted the newborn to Government Hospital in Vizianagaram Town for better treatment where he will be under observation for ten days.
The police said that dumping of the newborn might have the result of the boy being born to an unwanted mother or the outcome of an illicit relationship. The police have registered a case under Section 317 of IPC and formed a special team to trace the mother of the newborn. The team also examined the records at the private hospitals and government hospitals to get some clues in the case. The police said that interestingly some people came to the village to adopt the newborn. The boy will be shifted to Sishu Gruha once he is discharged from the hospital, they added.
