Electricity Bill Charges Clearly Explained

Electricity-Bill-Charges-Clearly-Explained

There has been a lot of confusion in the amount charged for electricity usage over the state. Looking at the sudden high hike in the bill almost every citizen is panicking. There is nothing to panic. The detailed current bill charges have been explained in this article. Go through for a better and clear understanding of the bill.

The bills of April could not be hand-delivered to the domestic consumers due to COVID-19 spread and lockdown situation, so the company had initially advised the consumers to pay the bill amount of March for the month of April too.

However, Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) reverted back to the actual consumption-based calculation system with the facilitation of spot billing after the lockdown was relaxed across the State post May 3.

APEPDCL however had increased the tariff for the Financial Year 2020-2021 only for category C for 500 units and above consumption and not for all the other categories. Yet it is going to charge half the units consumed at old tariff (for March) and the other half calculated at new tariff for the month of April. The total consumed units of electricity for March and April is taken for 61 days.

Revised electricity charges and previous year charges for domestic purpose are as follows:

1(A): Consumption less than or equal to 75 units during the billing month
Consumer units 2020-21 2019-20
0-50 1.45 1.45
51-75 2.60 2.60
1(B): Consumption greater than 75 and less than equal to 225 units during the billing month
Consumer units 2020-21 2019-20
0-50 2.6 2.6
51-100 2.6 2.6
101-200 3.6 3.6
201-225 6.9 6.9
1(C): Consumption greater than 225 during the billing month
Consumer units 2020-21 2019-20
0-50 2.65 2.65
51-100 3.35 3.35
101-200 5.40 5.40
201-300 7.10 7.10
301-400 7.95 7.95
401-500 8.50 8.50
500 and above 9.95 9.05

Due to lockdown as the usage has increased and hence forth the units of consumption too. The Electricity board has only charged for the units of consumption and it is a false allegation that they have increased the charges of the bill.
