In an initiative to encourage artisans in this challenging pandemic time, Vizagapatam Chamber of Commerce and Industry Women’s Wing in association with Waltair Club organised an exhibition and sale of arts and crafts.
Member of Parliament, Visakhapatnam Mr MVV Satyanarayana inaugurated the exhibition by lighting the lamp in the presence of President of Women’s Wing Dr Hema Yadavalli, President of Waltair Club Mr Phaneendra Babu, President of VCCI Mr Veeramohan, Honarary Secretary Sandhya Godey and other Committee members of VCCI and Waltair Club. Wide range of Etikoppaka toys are displayed for sale.
Making of Etikoppaka toys is an age old traditional art in a small village near Elamanchili in Visakhapatnam district. Locally available wood called Ankudi and natural dyes are used in making these products hence they are very safe. Beautiful decoration items and utility items in very attractive colours are manufactured. This exhibition and sale has been organised for three days.
Another participant in the exhibition is an NGO Prajwal Vani that conducts vocational training for specially abled children and prisoners in making decorative items and jute bags. Dr Suchitra has been running this organization for almost 13 years with great dedication.
Beautiful pottery items that are made by the inmates of ATK destitute and oldage home in Vizianagaram have also been displayed. ATK service organisation has been started by philanthropist Dr Mohammad Khaleelulla Sharif.
MP Mr MVV Satyanarayana appreciated this effort of supporting artisans in this tough time. President of Waltair Club expressed his happiness for being able to help the artisans. President of Women’s Wing Dr Hema Yadavalli expressed that the artisans deserve great recognition for their creativity and hardwork and everyone should feel responsible in promoting these traditional arts and crafts. People should buy these products to gift their near and dear during this festival season.
She said that Women’s Wing’s main objective is skill development and is ready to offer support to the artisans and NGOs. This initiative is coordinated with the support of Mr Ram of The Virtue Group, branding and marketing partner with Andhra Pradesh State Government in promoting arts andcrafts and Mr Chamundeshwar Rao, Visakhapatnam district manager, Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation.
