In spite of several raids by the vigilance and enforcement wing of the district administration, many private hospitals in the Vizag continue to fleece the patients by taking advantage of the covid pandemic situation. Several hospital managements are least not bothered about the dire consequences and are hell-bent on continuing with their unscrupulous activities.
Things come to such a pass that, a private hospital which is not notified as a Covid Hospital in the heart of the city at Jagadamba Junction, has been admitting and treating covid-19 patients by charging Rs. 50,000 per day apart from fleecing the patients with huge amounts for Remdesivir injection at their drug store.
Speaking to Hello Vizag, D. Suneeta, Drugs Inspector (Vigilance), who was in the Flying Squad, which conducted the raid said some hospital managements are even threatening the patients with dire consequences if they complain to anyone. Ram Kumar ( Name changed) a patient, who had lodged a complaint with us that Remdesivir injections were being sold at high rates by the hospital, backed out when we went to the hospital for a raid. But, subsequently, he changed his statement and said that he had procured the injection from outside.”
Stating further, D. Suneeta said in most hospitals records and case sheets were not properly maintained. Ne file noting for given drugs and injections to the patients in the case sheets. On being questioned by the vigilance squad, the hospital owner, who is a doctor himself, replied in a brut way that nothing wrongdoing is taking place in his hospital.
A case has been filed at the Maharanipeta police station against the hospital. Yet another hospital, which is covid notified, asking the patient attendants to buy Remdesivir injections from outside, while the hospital was supplied adequate stock by the authorities. But even after patients’ attendants procuring, injections are also not being given to the patients but sold in black to outsiders. The modus operandi is very simple and there is of the patient knowing as to what injections are given, and not allowing attendants into the hospitals makes it easy for unscrupulous hospitals to cheat patients,” adds Ms. Suneeta.
