The Forum for Development of North Andhra (FDNA) have brought to the notice of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), a few points for consideration and the required action.
According to members of FDNA, on the plaque of Gurajada statue situated near RTC complex, the date of his birth is mentioned as 30 November 1861, whereas his date of birth is 21 September 1862. Both date and year are wrongly mentioned.
In a letter submitted to GVMC, it stated, “We request you to see that it is rectified. There is no arrangement to clean his statue or pay tributes to him. Hence, we urge you to see that a permanent ladder type arrangement is made for this purpose. The Government has arranged this statue keeping in mind that he was a great foresighted patriot and progressive writer.”
The members also said that it was brought to the notice of concerned GVMC officials earlier by some literary organisations.
“We request you to take necessary steps on the above two issues of correcting the date of birth and ladder type arrangement. By any reason if it is not possible for GVMC to do this, we request you to give us permission to do this and we submit that we are prepared to do with our funds on your supervision,” the letter by FDNA stated.
