There is no smoke without fire. If the rumours are to be believed, Ganta Srinivas Rao, Former minister and TDP MLA from Visakhapatnam North is all set to join the ruling YSR Congress Party partly true. Going by his earlier comments of Ganta Srinivas Rao, welcoming the creation of three capitals by the chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, it seems the line is clear for him to join ruling party, in spite of some YSRCP leaders thwarting his move. Sources say the former minister, who is known to change parties and is constituencies at the drop of a hat and never lose an election, has been trying to join the YSRCP.
An astute politician, Ganta is reportedly trying to bypass Vijayasai Reddy and join the YSRCP. His attempts are not new — even before the 2019 elections, Ganta had made overtures, but was always rebuffed by Vijayasai Reddy. The YSRCP MP has been highly critical of Ganta and often cornered him on social media, even terming him ‘corrupt to the core’. “Ganta made a clever move after Vijayasai Reddy went into quarantine. He got in touch with some YSRCP leaders from Krishna district, including a Minister and managed to speak to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
He might join the party in August,’’ said a senior leader of the ruling party. Sources added that if Ganta makes it to the party, he would be given priority over Avanti Srinivasa Rao. He is also likely to bring more leaders into the ruling party fold and in the process of weakening the TDP, which he believes has no prospects in the near future. However, some YSRCP sources say the rumour is being spread intentionally targeting Vijayasai Reddy and there is no truth in it.
Ganta, who was in the shipping logistics business, was initiated into politics by former minister Ch Ayyanna Patrudu, who is now his arch enemy. He went on to win the Anakapalle Lok Sabha seat in 1999 and in 2004, entered the Assembly from Chodavaram. In 2009 he joined actor Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam Party and won from Anakapalle Assembly. He became minister after PRP was merged with the Congress. He dumped the Congress for the TDP in 2014 and became HRD minister and a powerful leader in coastal Andhra.
As per Avanti Srinivas thinking, ‘Ganta cannot survive for a long time without being part of the power center. Wherever power is there, he has to be there. He is a rank opportunist. That is why he is trying to gain entry into the YSR congress party.’ Interestingly, Ganta and Avanti srinivas were colleagues in the Telugu Desam Party. Avanti was in the TDP till the last elections before jumping into the YSRC just before the elections. He has become a minister later. It is interesting to note that Ganta did not even attend the recent Winter Session of the assembly fuelling the speculations of the party change.
