The 13th President of India Pranab Mukherjee who served India from 2012 to 2017 passed away at the age of 84 at the Army’s Research and Referral Hospital in New Delhi. The news of demise was announced by his son Abhijit Mukherjee with a heavy heart. The former president Pranab Mukherjee was admitted to the Army hospital in Delhi on August 10 for surgery to remove a clot in his brain. Later, he developed a lung infection. He also tested positive for Covid-19 prior to the procedure.

Condolences began pouring in from all quarters after the sad demise of former President Pranab Mukherjee. The President of Indian Ram Nath Kovind in an emotional message said Pranab Mukherjee “a colossus in public Life’ who served “Mother India with the spirit of a sage. The nation mourns losing one of its worthiest sons. Condolences to his family, friends & all citizens President Kovind tweeted.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a lengthy tribute to Pranab Mukherjee, as “scholar par excellence and a towering statesman” whose loss would be felt deeply. He also said, with the passing away of Bharat Ratna Shri Pranab Mukherjee, India is grieving.
