The number of fresh cases witnessed a steep slump as the district recorded the lowest number of cases in as many weeks, during the second wave. As many as 189 cases were reported on Monday, against 700 cases on Sunday. The positivity rate was less than 10 percent as 3000 tests were conducted on Sunday.
Meanwhile, there are 8,059 active cases as against 8,933 cases on Sunday. Six persons died on Sunday taking the toll to 950, according to AMC principal PV Sudhakar in a statement here on Monday.
As many as 1,057 people were discharged after they recovered from the virus on Monday, against 1,394 people on Sunday. Total people recovered from the virus so far were 1,33,534. The total number of cases recorded in the district stood at 1,42,543.
Meanwhile, district collector V Vinay Chand on Monday asked the health officials to ramp up the daily number of Covid tests to 10,000. He asked the DMHO to hold teleconferences to direct the health officials to achieve the target on a war footing. He asked the officials to crack the whip against the hospitals which are not following Aarogyasri guidelines.
As many as 60 people were booked for violating the curfew regulations in the last 24 hours. Similarly, 95 people were smacked with a fined for not wearing a mask. Fines were imposed on 1,964 vehicles for violating the norms during the period.
