Glitches in Rushikonda resorts booking fuels capital talk in Vizag

Speculation that the State Government will begin functioning from Executive Capital Vizag was on everybody’s lips on Monday after glitches were noticed in the booking for the beach-facing picturesque Haritha Resorts at Rushikonda. Many, including tour operators, except that the AP Government may take over the resort to use as temporary accommodation for officials till a permanent facility comes up. What added fuel to the speculation is the recent indication from key YSRCP leader and Minister Botsa Satyanarayana, that the Executive Capital may start functioning from Vizag from this Telugu New Year (Ugadi).

“Vizag will be legally the executive capital of Andhra Pradesh with effect from April 13. We are gearing up to function from Vizag from that date. We are hopeful of overcoming all legal hurdles by then,” the Minister said. Speaking to Hello Vizag, AP Tourism Development Corporation MD Pravin Kumar said the resort will remain open for public in February. He confirmed that renovation works will be taken up. The purpose for the renovation, however, not clear. “Room is not available. Would you like to get a notification when a room is available?” was the message the portal was showing when one tried to book rooms in the Haritha Beach Resorts at Rushikonda for February on Monday.

However, by the evening, the portal showed rooms were available. It is learnt that the six hills abutting the picturesque Bay of Bengal on the Rushikonda – Bhimili Road were on top of the choices of the government for temporary accommodation of staff and offices. The speculation is that the government has already identified suitable buildings in Visakhapatnam for the location of offices, till new ones are constructed. The AP State Legislature passed two Bills – AP Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All Regions Bill, 2020 – aimed at creating the three capital cities for the state – and the AP Capital Region Development Authority (Repeal) Bill, 2020, seeking to abolish APCRDA formed in December 2014 to develop Amaravati as the state capital.
