In the corridors of power and influence in Andhra Pradesh, where political power and money fuse, a new magic passcode does wonders- ‘AA’. No, it is not a model of a battery or even a credit rating but a nickname. ‘Andhra Adani’ is coded as a reference to Pharma and realty company in power circles of AP these days. The company Aurobindo Reality and infrastructure, has been moving aggressively to capture the Andhra coast, one of the longest in the country.
The journey began when it first acquired the Kakinada SEZ and Greenfield port, passes through the existing Kakinada deep water port and will soon reach the proposed Ramayapatnam port. That this AA company will bag the engineering procurement and construction (EPC) contract for Ramayapatnam is a foregone conclusion, because the only other bidder, Megha Engineering and infrastructures Limited (MEIL), quoted a higher amount, as expected.
All the other eligible infra companies “stayed away” from the bid, for reasons best known and understood by all in the game. With this Y.S.Jagan Mohan Reddy government deciding to privatize the Ramayapatnam port operations, after constructing it with public funds, there are few doubts about Aurobindi bagging the contract. The company could have taken over Krishnapatnam and Gangavaram too, but the Andhra Adanai had to bend to the original Adani, who had put is handkerchief on those two.
