Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) will soon start collecting users charges for collecting garbage from every household in the city. It will possibly start from this month. GVMC took this decision as a part of the initiative by the state government named Clean Andhra Pradesh (CLAP). Under this project, Rs. 4 per day from every household will be collected for collecting garbage.
That is according to this, every citizen will need to pay Rs.120 per month for GVMC for the garbage collection they are providing. The charge will be Rs. 2-3 per day in other smaller towns in the district.
According to the health officials at GVMC, they have selected a list of 58 model wards in the city. GVMC will be assessing the difficulties, errors so that it can further implement the user charges in other wards in the city.
The concept behind this charges implementation according to GVMC is that it wishes to maintain the money, collected as user charges, for the expenses of garbage segregation. It is also known that GVMC is soon planning to provide autos instead of the present vehicles to the ward Sachivalayams for the collection of garbage.
