The Andhra Pradesh High Court has expressed displeasure over the way the CBI conducted a probe into the arrest of Narsipatnam doctor Sudhakar and asked the agency to do a more in-depth inquiry and submit the status report by March 31, 2021.
A division bench comprising justices Rakesh Kumar and D Ramesh held the hearing in the case on Monday. AS the CBI submitted its final status report on the alleged police highhandedness in the arrest, the court said this will not suffice.
Dr. Sudhakar was arrested by the police in Visakhapatnam in May when he used abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister of AP and TS, allegedly under the influence of liquor. Telugu Desam former MLA Vangalapudi Anitha wrote a letter to the High Court on the issue. The court accepted it as public interest litigation (PIL) on suo moto basis and directed the CBI to inquire into the circumstances leading to the arrest.
