Tourism and infrastructure projects have got a big push with the state cabinet clearing 11 big-ticket projects to make Visakhapatnam a perfect tourist destination. The state cabinet proposed to develop the stretch between Kailasagiri hills and Bhogapuram Corridor, which is blessed with braces, green hill sand heritage sites. Development of tourism infrastructure projects with government funding and under PPP mode was also proposed.
As per the proposals, the stretch from Bheemli to Bhogapuram will be developed as a ‘hospitality district’ with world-class accommodation facilities (beach resorts/hotels). MV Maa Cargo vessel which drifted to the coast at Tenneti Park will be turned into a floating restaurant. It will house banquette halls, 30 rooms, and a multi-cuisine restaurant amid other amenities.
It was also proposed to demark and notify areas around Thotlakonda and Bavikonda Buddhist sites as part of the Buddhist Circuit and beautify the area. The base of Thotlakonda is planned to be developed as a cultural hub with adventure sports towards the seaside. As part of the recreational tourism projects, a 120-meter high-sky tower and tunnel aquarium will be developed under PPP mode. The cabinet also approved the proposal to upgrade Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, the third-largest zoo in terms of area. As requested by the Asset Reconstruction Company, it may be permitted for the third-party developer to acquire the land as per government norms, to aid in the viability of the project and assist in investing the huge capital required for the project.
