The Thursday morning saw a new twist in the YSRCP politics when an unknown woman Golagani Hari Venkata Kumari from Arilova slumps was named the Mayor of Visakhapatnam in place of high profile leader Vamsi Krishna Yadav. His name was making the rounds as the Mayor since the election notification was issued. Vamsi Krishna also claimed that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had promised him to make Mayor after he was denied party nomination to contest Assembly elections in 2019. The rumours gained ground after he was shifted to contest from ward no. 21 where his Yadav community has a strong presence.
But the party high command dropped him an hour before the election of the Mayor and his party. Party sources said Vamsi knew the development and switched off his mobile since March 16 evening. After Galagani Hari Venkata Kumari made to sit in the Mayor’s chair, Yamsi was the last to greet her. Later at the end of the special session, Vamsi was greeted by hundreds of party workers who mostly belong to his community. They raised slogans against Rajya Sabha member V Vijaya Sai Reddy and demanded justice for Vamsi.
“We left TDP and joined YSRC hoping we will get a better deal under YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. The senior leaders asked us to work for Vamsi Krishna Yadav and accordingly, we followed him. But he was denied ticket in 2019 Assembly elections and now the Mayor’s post,” said the angry women at the main gate. Vamsi who was present at the protest told the reporters that he would accept the decision taken by the party’s high command and extend full cooperation to the Mayor.
When reporters asked him whether there was any conspiracy behind him that prevented his candidature, he said there could be. People who betray Yadavs suffer a lot. “People who prevented my nomination in the 2019 Assembly elections are suffering now. Another set of people who spiked my chances of becoming Mayor will face a similar face,” Vamsi Krishna Yadav said.
A senior party leader said Jagan Mohan Reddy promised to make him mayor if he worked for the success of party candidate Akkaramani Vijaynirmala in the Assembly elections. She lost to TD candidate Velagapudi Ramakrishna and hence Vamsi has no right to demand a reward, the mayorship, the leader said. Vamsi later appealed to his loyalists not to post any comments on social media as it would harm his career.
