The present global pandemic brought huge healthcare challenges but it has also opened up huge number of opportunities for every part of the world particularly Indian Biotech sector saw many start-up companies rising with huge investment flow, observed by world reputed biotechnology company Biocon Limited founder Chairperson Ms.Kiran Mazumdar Shaw here on Saturday during GITAM Deemed to be University 11 th convocation (virtual).
While addressing the graduates she observed that many start-up companies in Indian biotech sector could not even attract venture capital or any funding in the past are now suddenly found a large number of investors. She expressed that many more start-up will come in
The textile industry repurposed its plants into developing PPEs and today we are a major exporter of PPEs to the world, she added. She mentioned that initially there was a shortage of ventilators in the country but our companies rose to the challenge and started developing ventilators of various types and today it’s become a big export opportunity for that industry. She said that large number of companies including our own have developed very important drugs that can actually manage the disease better and prevent deaths.
She advised that the present generation must face the challenges and failures to create opportunities. GITAM Chancellor Prof.K.Ramakrishna Rao said that GITAM will prepare the students to face all kind of challenges. GITAM Vice-Chancellor Prof.K.Sivaramakrishna informed that GITAM is developing its own learning management system to be able to address the university’s expanding needs. He announced that GITAM has established Kautilya School of Public Policy with a mission to empower leaders through rigorous public policy education.
He further informed that GITAM faculty filed 25 patents during the year and have published 1783 research papers in international journals.
GITAM Pro –Vice-Chancellor Prof.Jayasankar Variyar conducted oath taking ceremony. GITAM Registrar Prof.D.Gunasekaran informed that total 6135 UG & PG students, 140 Ph.D students have successfully completed their courses to receive the convocation degrees. He announced the names of 46 gold medallists. GITAM Institute of Pharmacy faculty Dr.PMKrishna Prasad received best thesis award and Mechanical Engineering Associate Professor Dr.Balla Srinivasa Prasad received best researcher award.
