The International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) is an awareness campaign on level crossing safety. The campaign has been spearheaded by the International Union of Railways (UIC) with the support of the railway community around the world. A growing number of road sector organizations, international institutions (UNECE, IRU) has also been involved in raising awareness of the risks at level crossings to change road users’ and pedestrians’ behaviour to “Act safely at level crossings”. Each participant gives his good practices and shares his projects to increase safety and lower the number of accidents.
Waltair Division has observed the awareness campaign on International Level Crossing Day 11th June, 2020 with the motto of “Your family members are waiting for you at home”. Waltair Division, under the guidance of Sr. Divisional Safety Officer N. R. Sahoo, awareness drives were conducted at LC gates, with the aim to create awareness on Safety at Level Crossing.
Divisional Railway Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava said that everyone should obey all rules pertaining to Level Crossing gates and avoid crossing under the closed LC gate conditions. ADRM (infra) Akshay Saxena and ADRM (operations) P. Ramachandra Rao advised the public to follow the safety norms and always be vigilant while approaching the LC gate. Tress passers, vehicle users, auto rickshaw users and residents of nearby areas of LC gates were counselled and leaflets were distributed by the Civil Defense staff lead by Civil Defense Inspector Chube Prasad.
