An International workshop on “Scour and Erosion” will be organized virtually on December 16 by the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) in association with the Department of Civil Engineering, Andhra University College of Engineering.
AU Vice-Chancellor Prof. P. V. G. D. Prasad Reddy will inaugurate the workshop. Prof. C.N.V. Satyanarayana Reddy, Department of Civil Engineering (AUCE) is the coordinator of the workshop. Prof. Reddy is the Indian Member of the ISSMGE Technical Committee – 213 on ‘Scour and Erosion’.
The workshop aims at creating awareness and exposing the civil engineering professionals to the causes of soil erosion / scour and impart knowledge on various mitigation methods. Prof. Shinji Sassa, Chairman, Technical Committee (TC)-213 of ISSMGE, Prof. E.C. Shin, Incheon National University, South Korea & Vice President (Asia), Prof. Jie Han of Kansas University (USA), Prof. M.R. Madhav, IIT Hyderabad, Dr. Paolo, Maccaferri Geosynthetics (Italy), Albert of Tencate Geosynthetics Asia, (Malaysia) and Prof. C.N.V. Satyanarayana Reddy of Andhra University will deliver the lectures related to the issues of coastal and river scour and erosion, surface/subsurface erosion of soils and deals with the remedial measures to be adopted to control scour and erosion.
The suitability of various erosion and scour protection structures such as Groins, Geotubes, Gabion structures, etc. for beach erosion issues and Geobags, Gabion/ Geocell mattress systems will be discussed during the workshop. More than 500 participants (Academicians, Engineers, and Researchers) from India and abroad (18 different countries) are participating in the event. The live stream of the event is available on YouTube at https://youtu.be/vscbSSM2KL4.
