Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy will inaugurate 2,503 door delivery vehicles at Benz circle on January 21. The vehicles would delivery essential commodities to the beneficiaries under public distribution system (PDS) across the state. The government’s latest move will revolutionise the public distribution system as essential commodities will be delivered at the doorsteps of the white ration card holders from February 1.
Of the 2,503 vehicles, 817 are allocated to Krishna and 902 to Guntur districts, while the remaining 784 will be delivering services in West Godavari district. The state government will be launching as many as 9,260 special delivery vehicles across the state for delivering the essential commodities to the beneficiaries. All the vehicles would reach their respective places by January end and from February 1, the vehicles will be delivering quality rice and other essential commodities.
Necessary training has been imparted to the vehicle drivers and the authorities are planning to create awareness among the beneficiaries too. The poor unemployed youths having valid driving license and persons from SC, ST, BC, EBC, Muslim, Christian and minority communities were given the opportunity to purchase the door delivery vehicles from the government on subsidy.
The beneficiary of the vehicles would bear 10 per cent of the vehicle cost and 60 per cent will be offered as loan by banks with six-year term, while remaining 30 per cent will be subsidy. The authorities are making all arrangements for the programme with all precautionary measures, said the Civil Supplies Commissioner, Kona Sasidhar.
