Known as Andhra Pradesh’s Kashmir, Lammasingi recorded this winter season’s lowest temperature, hovering around 5 degrees Celsius on Monday. With people preferring to visit the local picturesque places in view of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Vizag Agency areas are witnessing a good inflow of tourists.
For the past two days, the mercury level has been falling drastically in many parts of the Agency particularly at Lammasingi, Tajangi, and few other areas under Chintapalli Mandal. The youngsters from Vizag and other parts of the region are thronging these places to witness the cool and foggy weather conditions.
Regional Agriculture Research Station (RARS), which is based at Chintapalli in Vizag usually record the temperature and also calculate the temperature of surrounding areas of Lammasingi and Tajangi by deducting 1 to 2 degree Celsius from the temperature at RARS.
Just because there is no India Meteorological Department (IMD) at Chintapalli, the weather equipment (Automatic Weather Station) at RARS Chintapalli authenticates the temperatures at Chintapalli. Speaking to Hello Vizag, Associate Director of Research, RARS, Chintapalli, Dr. G Rama Rao said that Chintapalli shivered at 6.5 degrees Celsius, the lowest so far this season on Monday. We are expecting that the temperature will further dip in the coming days and it may touch around 4 degrees Celsius by December 2020.
Among all this, the locals have been appealing to the visitors to keep the surroundings clean by not littering the liquor bottles, plastic bags and glasses, and others. The tiny tribal hamlets – Lammasingi, Tajangi and Yerravaram waterfalls under Chintapalle Mandal have emerged as the most sought after places for the youngsters during the winter as the hilly areas have unique features of chilling weather and thick cover of the fog till 10 am during the winter season.
