With the spike in Covid-19 cases day after day, with death toll hovering near 55, denizens of Vizag getting scarred and preparing to face another round of lockdown with strict regulations to combat the spread of pandemic. Earlier, businessmen and traders in Visakhapatnam self-imposed lockdown with restricted timings owing to the spike in the number of Covid-19 cases. The district currently has 3432 active cases and has seen 55 deaths. The district administration is of the view to impose complete lockdown in areas where the cases are high number.
A section of citizens in Visakhapatnam are miffed at the administration for allegedly not taking stern measures to check the steep rise in Covid-19 cases. Over the last two weeks, social media has been replete with demands for a partial lockdown and penalty for those violating norms such as wearing masks or maintaining social distancing. Citizens worry that around 3432 cases have already been reported till 22nd July. Now, if 200 to 250 cases are reported every day, finding adequate hospital beds and ventilators will become a problem.
Speaking to Hello Vizag, Dr. D. Raghunatha Rao, Advisor – Medical Oncology, RINL, Visakhapatnam, said, “The need of the hour is the imposition of a partial lockdown for 7-10 days, restricting all non-emergency movement between 7pm and 7am and unnecessary interdistrict or inter-state travel.”
